Iván Maceda | Founder, CEO
Iván Maceda is a Mexican-born classical guitarist, mariachi performer, and music educator whose work bridges performance, teaching, and community leadership. Based in Bloomington, Indiana, Iván studied at the Escuela Nacional de Música (UNAM) and the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, where he completed advanced training in performance and Music Education.
For over two decades, Iván has worked across diverse educational and cultural settings—universities, conservatories, community centers, and private studios—promoting music as a tool for growth, inclusion, and cultural pride.
Whether leading ensembles or designing curricula, Iván believes in music’s power to build community, inspire young minds, and create opportunity.
Joshua Cuevas | President of Board
Joshua P. Cuevas is a composer, conductor, and flutist currently studying at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. A member of the Latino-American community, he seeks to explore deeper how cultures interact with each other, as well as what being human means through music.
Having performed in ensembles all through his formative years, performance, connection, and community are most important to him and his music. In this time when community and thoughtfulness is under attack, he seeks to promote complex and emotional art.
Alejandro Cruz | Secretary of Board
My name is Alejandro Cruz. I'm a senior at Wabash College. My journey with mariachi music started on the harp as a junior in High School in the Rio Grand Valley. I fell in love with the genre, the musicians, and the tradition, and decided that I wanted to contribute to its legacy as I started my college journey in the Midwest. Now, here I am, serving as the Secretary of the Board for the Indiana Mariachi Project. Through my time with the non-profit, I hope to see us inspiring young individuals to take up this genre that is fun and joyful!
Luis Maceda | Treasurer of Board
Luis is a financial audit professional with international experience in the financial services sector. He holds an MBA in Corporate Finance and Corporate Social Responsibility and currently develops his career in San Francisco, California, where he works in the financial audit of asset management institutions. He is also completing the examinations required to obtain CPA licensure in California.
Throughout his career, Luis has maintained a strong interest in the connection between finance, social responsibility, and the development of more inclusive communities. He believes that strong and transparent financial management is essential for nonprofit organizations to fulfill their mission, grow sustainably, and maximize their social impact.
His commitment to the cultural sector also extends to his involvement with other nonprofit initiatives, including Fundación Cultural Tequendama in Colombia. At Indiana Mariachi Project, Luis contributes his experience in finance, accounting, and organizational governance to support the organization’s mission and responsible growth
Sandra Meder | Board Member
Sandra Meder, a German native, has a background in Early Music (main instrument recorder at IU Jacobs School of Music), worship music (Master's Degree), and teaching (elementary level and French in high school and language immersion camps). Her motivation to support the Indiana Mariachi Project as a board member stems from her conviction that the project creates belonging by allowing individuals to participate in each others' cultures. Her projects include outreach and fundraising support. To lead by example, she has taken up guitarron playing.
Andrea Arends | Board Member
Andrea is a multilingual (Spanish-English) pediatric speech-language pathologist. She is a lifelong learner and vihuela student with an enthusiasm for education programming that promotes multiculturalism. Andrea is excited to serve on the Board of Directors of the Indiana Mariachi Project, where she supports its mission of enriching people's lives through music, culture, and education.
